List pages worth discovering
A sitemap should reflect the public pages you intend people to use. Avoid listing error pages, internal previews or duplicate versions that point elsewhere. Keep the hostname and canonical URL pattern consistent. A clear internal link remains useful to both readers and crawlers, even when a page is in a sitemap.
Describe language versions consistently
If you publish equivalent pages in several languages, maintain the same set of alternatives in the sitemap and page markup. Test that those URLs actually resolve. An automatically generated file helps reduce mistakes, but the generation logic still needs validation when routes change.
Inspect the real response
Open the deployed XML, check its content type, and confirm it contains the expected URLs. Search engines may choose not to index a discovered page for other reasons. Use the appropriate search tools to investigate a specific URL, and review the page’s quality and accessibility before repeatedly resubmitting. This lab generates per-language sitemaps from its actual answer inventory.
